Gross Domestic Product
|
|
The Vietnamese economy continued to attain big achievements in 2007. Specifically, the GDP growth reached 8.48% - highest after China's and India's; real GDP was 1,143,442 bil. VND; GDP per capita was 839 USD.
Also, the economic structure has been shifting positively towards industrialization and modernization,
in the trend of decreasing the agriculture-forestry-fishery share (20.25%) and increasing the service sector share (41.60%) in GDP.
The private and foreigner-invested sectors, which made higher growth rate and occupied larger GDP share than the state-owned sector,
are becoming dynamic forces creating the economy's development momentum.

Inflation

|
But, along with the high growth, CPI of 12.63% reached the highest in last ten years, approximately double the index of 2006.

FDI and Investment Capital
|
|
In 2007, the total investment capital was 461,900 bil. VND, making up 40.4% of GDP, increasing 15.8% in comparison with the number of 2006.
It mainly was originated from the state-owned sector 43.3%, then the private sector 40.7%, lastly the FDI sector 16%.
The biggest achievement in 2007 was the FDI attraction of 20.3 bil. USD, increasing 69.1% in comparison with the number of 2006.
That has been the highest level since the Foreign Investment Law became effective in 1988. Structurally, the FDI flow mainly focused on the service sector
63.7% and the industry sector 35%, while the agriculture-forestry-fishery sector accounted for 1.3% only.
However, in spite of the very high registered FDI, the realized was only 4.6 bil. USD
(increasing 16.27% in comparison with the number of 2006). That reflected limitations of disbursement
process.

Goods Import and Export
|
|
In 2007, the total export value reached 48.4 bil. USD (up by 21.5% compared with 2006), the total import value stood at 60.8 bil. USD
(up by 35.5% compared with 2006). Those are the record levels up to now.
In balance, trade deficit reached 12.4 bil. USD, was 2.5 times as much as the value of 2006.
The export markets primarily were still the US, the EU, Japan and ASEAN.

Population and Labor

|
The Vietnamese population in 2007 was 86 mil. people, increasing 1.23% in comparison with the number of 2006.
Meanwhile, the urban unemployment rate continued to decrease.

The stock market
|
|
In 2007, the new listing of 32 stock symbols on HOSE raised the total listing stock value up 37,637 bil. VND, approximately 1.7 times as much as the value of 2006;
The market capitalization also increased 1.5 times, reached 364,414 bil. VND.
VN-Index stood at 927.02 points on December 28, 2007, up by 23.31% in comparison with the one at the end of 2006.
The average trading volume (including stocks, fund certificates and bonds) in 2007 was approximately 9,550 thousand units,
2.12 and 6.79 times as many as the quantities of 2006 and 2005, respectively.
Together with the development of the HOSE stock market is the growth of the HASTC market. Namely,
the market capitalization in 2007 reached 128,476 bil. VND, increasing 75.54%;
HASTC-Index stood at 323.55 points on December 28, 2007, up by 33.2% in comparison with the one at the end of 2006;
The average trading volume was 5.22 times as many as the quantity of 2006.
In the year, HASTC welcomed 26 new stock symbols to raise the total listing value up to 13,234 bil. VND.
Summarily, the total market capitalization of both HOSE and HASTC at the end of 2007 was equivalent to 43.11% of GDP, approximately double the percentage of 2006.
In 2007, 23 securities firms and 8 investment fund management companies made their debuts.
So, at the end of 2007 there were totally 78 securities firms and 26 investment fund management companies.

Gold
|
|
Gold price was varying drastically during the year. On December 28, 2007 the price of the precious metal stood at 1.62 mil. VND/chỉ (1 chỉ = 3.75 gram),
up by 30.75% compared with the beginning of the year.
